DCLA Day 5

Thursday was another full day of DCLA, with LAB time
in the morning, "Lotsa Options" and free time in the
afternoon, and the BIG ROOM Bible study and concerts
at night.

There were a few things that stood out as highlights
of the day - and one thing that may be the highlight
of the whole week! (I'll save it for last)

Dennis and Roger were sitting at the hotel's outside
tables having their oatmeal when they noticed a
Farmer's Market setting up next door. They went over,
had a few samples, and then bought some fresh fruit
for the kids for breakfast. The white nectarines were
in season, and they were great!

The kids are making new friends from all over the
country in their small group circles during LAB time.
Several pictures of those are posted. As we continued
to talk about sharing their faith with their friends
and neighbors, today's topic was about the fact that
you have care enough about them to listen to their
stories before jumping in with yours and even God's
People listen to people who listen to them, we are
told. We were given several other very practical
listening skills. And we talked about loving our
neighbors - including those that are sometimes hard to
love (Dennis was mentioned specifically by the
presenter) (Just kidding) (He didnít need to mention
him - everybody thought of him all by themselves)

Thursday afternoon it reached 101 degrees in
Sacramento. We learned, though, that the old saying
"It's not the heat, it's the humidity" is true. It's
a very dry heat here, and several noticed that they
walked the 10 blocks between the hotel and convention
center without even sweating.

OK - The highlight of the week so far: Every night,
Geoff Moore (the recording artist who is the "emcee"
and host of the Big Room events) interviews a few
students on the big stage, and one of our own was
interviewed Thursday. "Ladies and Gentlemen, please
give a big DCLA welcome to Jacob from Iowa!" We were
all so very, very proud of Jake. Geoff asked him how
DCLA was going, and he said "I'm learning more about
God." Geoff asked him what was something he wanted to
share with everyone, and Jake said, "I love Jesus.
I've always believed in God." The crowd went nuts
(all 4000 of them). Geoff talked about what it would
be like if all of us had the courage to say more often
and more boldly that "We love Jesus, and we believe in
God."
