SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL - SPECIAL MEETING
President Deb Kingland called a Special Salem Council meeting on May 23, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the lounge. Those present were: Deb Kingland, Tami Alphs, Jennifer McGrady, Bob Peterson, Lynn Bartness, Wanda Playter, Scott Helgeson, Gaye Sletten, Cindy Haugsdal and Pastor Weeg.
Visitors: David Kingland and Alan Swanson

Pastor Weeg opened with prayer.

David Kingland, Alan Swanson and Rick Orban from the Calling Committee came with a recommendation to call Pastor David Jordon to be the Associate Pastor at Salem Lutheran Church. Each Committee member gave background on why they felt this candidate was the best fit for Salem. Pastor Weeg also spoke saying that he and Pastor Jordon had a five hour compatibility session with the Synod consultant and that had gone well. There is now a need for a Congregational Meeting to vote on this recommendation to call Pastor Jordon.

A motion was made by Tami Alphs to call a Congregational Meeting on Sunday June 24th at 9:45 a.m. to vote on calling Pastor David Jordon to Salem. This was seconded by Scott Helgeson and all approved. The Call Committee will put together a packet of information on Pastor Jordon to present at the congregational meeting.

Deb Kingland then brought up that has been concern expressed about Sunday School ending in April this year. Bob Peterson stated that the Board of Education decided to try ending Sunday School earlier this year to see how it was received. Past records have shown that attendance at Sunday School has been poor and it has also been extremely hard to get teachers for that month since it is busy with Confirmation, Mother's Day and Graduation. Other council members also mentioned that they, too, had heard concerns with ending early. Bob will bring this feedback to the Board of Education and they will re-evaluate the ending date for next year.

Discussion was held that we will be having an audit done, looking over procedural manuals and doing a test of best practices. An audit like this has not been done in quite a while, so it will be good for them to look over things and make sure we are compliant.

Scott Helgeson said that they are hoping to close on the parsonage sale before June 4th. Daron Fritz will be handling the closing once the abstract is brought up to date.

David Kingland announced that Katie Zenk is now back from vacation and will be starting full time June 1. David, Pastor Weeg and Wanda Playter will meet with Katie to present her employee package.

Motion was made to adjourn by Jennifer McGrady and seconded by Lynn Bartness. All Approved.
We closed with the Lord's Prayer.
