SPECIAL SALEM COUNCIL MEETING
President Scott Helgeson called a Special Salem Council meeting on August 17, 2005 at 8:00 PM in the lounge. Those present were: Pastor Dykstra, Deb Bachman, Scott Helgeson, Deb Kingland, Doug Bruhns, Dianne Gardner, Linda Rasmusson, Don Aamodt, Jerry Hoffman and Kathy Gilbertson. Guests: David Kingland, Pat Young and Doug Harmon. Pastor Dykstra opened with prayer.

Deb Kingland, Pat Young and Doug Harmon gave a parish council report. Deb brought to the parish council our recommendation to disband from the One In Christ Parish. They shared with us some of the thoughts from the parish council. After more discussion we feel this move is the best recommendation for Salem.

After discussion, a motion was made by Don Aamodt and seconded by Jerry Hoffman to adopt a motion to choose what has been called "Option #4" in the list of choices presented to us. Option #4 is the choice to disband the parish as it currently exists, and have individual congregations or yokes of congregations call and/or hire their own pastors or staff.

A motion was made by Dianne Gardner and seconded by Deb Kingland to schedule a special Salem congregation meeting to vote on the Council's recommendation that we disband the parish as it currently exists. The meeting will be Sunday, September 11, 2005 at 9:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall.

A Call Committee will be required because our current staff members were actually called by the parish, not just by Salem. A motion was made by Jerry Hoffman and seconded by Linda Rasmusson to begin the Call Committee process if needed. It was decided to have an informational forum to discuss the decision to be made about Salem's future in the parish.

Rita Bakken, Jen McGrady and Deb Georgia are serving on the current nominating committee. A motion was made by Linda Rasmusson, and seconded by Dianne Gardner to have Deb Kingland, Scott Helgeson and Don Aamodt also serve on the committee.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Scott Helgeson and seconded by Linda Rasmusson.

We closed with the Lord's Prayer.
