SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL
The Salem Church Council met September 8, 2005 in the Lounge.
Those present were: Pastor Mackey, Deb Bachman, Scott Helgeson, Deb Kingland, Dianne Gardner, Linda Rasmusson, Bob Peterson, Keith Helland, Jerry Hoffman and Kathy Gilbertson. Guest: David Kingland. Late: Pastor Dykstra. Absent: Doug Bruhns, Amy Olson and Don Aamodt.
Pastor Mackey led us in devotions and prayer.
Each council member individually read the Secretary's Report. Motion was made by Linda Rasmusson and seconded by Deb Kingland to accept the minutes.
No Treasurer's Report was given. As of August 30,2005 we have a balance of $14,882.38.
The Financial Secretaries Report was given by Dianne Gardner. The amount of $28,640.74 was deposited in August.
A motion was made by Jerry Hoffman seconded by Bob Peterson to accept these reports.
Board Reports:
Board of Worship and Music: Keith Helland reported Thula Sizwe, a South African choir, will be performing on Sunday, October 2 at both services. They are seeking housing for the musicians for Saturday evening. If interested contact a board member. It was noted that communion will be moved back a week (October 9) due to the performance. The Christmas Eve service (Saturday) will be as it has been in the past. Christmas Day (Sunday) will have one service at 10:00 a.m. The 8:30 broadcast will be on Sunday taped from the Eve service. There will be a communion serving orientation before the next council meeting at 7:40 p.m. October 13. There will be a coffee time before the JC4U service in the Narthex. On October 3-4 Pastor & Kathi Dykstra, Bill Georgia and Deb Bachman will be attending a worship and music seminar.
Board of Stewardship and Social Ministry: David Kingland reported Stewardship Sunday is scheduled for November 20. A stewardship sermon will be given on. November 13.
Board of Education: Bob Peterson reported Rally Sunday is scheduled for September 11. The children's Christmas programs will be December 18 at 2:00.
Board of Youth: Deb Bachman reported Friday Night Alive will be starting September 16 at 7:00 p.m. The Confirmation programs have started this week. The board will be making plans for two trips next summer. The ELCA National Youth Convention in Texas in July and a mission trip to New Hampshire.
Board of Life and Growth: Linda Rasmusson reported Thursday, October 6 will be the new member class and the new member Sunday will be October 16. In October a series of sermons will be given on Reformation. The board will be showing the movie "Luther" on Sunday, October 30 at 3:00 with Pastor Dykstra and Steve Smith leading a discussion following the movie.
Board of Property and Management: Jerry Hoffman reported the nursery will be completed this week and all the improvements have been done with donations.
One in Christ Parish Council: Deb Kingland reported the council had discussion on the topic of Salem voting on withdrawing from the parish.
A motion was made by Keith Helland and seconded by Linda Rasmusson to accept these reports.
Old Business: There Will be a congregation meeting on Sunday, September 11th at 9:30 to vote on the withdrawal of Salem from the parish. A motion was made by Bob Peterson and seconded by Jerry Hoffman to vote on the resolution to approve Salem's withdrawal from the One In Christ Parish effective January 2,2006, with the hope that we will continue to partner in various cooperative ministries. In the event the motion to leave the parish is passed, the nominating committee has 6 candidates for the Salem Call Committee that will be voted on.
New Business: Pastor Dykstra discussed with the council the creation of two new ministry teams and a long range planning team. A motion was made by Dianne Gardner and seconded by Keith Helland to accept Quint Askildson as a new member of Salem.
The next meeting will be held Thursday, October 13, 2005. A motion to adjourn was made by Dianne Gardner and seconded by Jerry Hoffman.
