SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL
The Salem Lutheran Church Council met October 11, 2006.

The board members present were Scott Helgeson, Jerry Hoffman, Deb Kingland, Jennifer McGrady, Rick Orban, Bob Peterson, Wanda Playter, Gaye Sletten, Pastor Weeg and David Kingland, Call Committee Chairman/Staff Management Chairman. Absent: Don Aamodt, Tami Alphs and Carolyn Swanson

Call to Order by Deb Kingland. Opening Devotions and Prayers were given by Deb Kingland.

Secretary's Report: Each council member individually read the secretary's report. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Rick Orban and seconded by Scott Helgeson. All Approved
Correspondence: A thank you was read from Sarah Nyhus for the support Salem has given her.
Treasurer's Report: Scott Helgeson reported that the General Fund Balance as of September 30, 2006 was $54,206.51.
Financial Secretary's Report: Scott Helgeson reported that the General Fund Income for September was $23,365.16, with the total income for September being $35,472.54.
A motion was made by Bob Peterson to authorize Scott Helgeson to tender the Duke Energy stock certificates the church received as a gift and currently holds as an investment, to the Bank of New York for new certificates to be issued as part of its reorganization as Duke Energy Holding. The motion was seconded by Jennifer McGrady and all approved.
Motion to accept the treasurer's report and the financial secretary's report was made by Jennifer McGrady and seconded by Rick Orban. All approved.

BOARD REPORTS:
Board of Worship & Music:
Deb Kingland reported in Carolyn Swanson's absence. The Thanksgiving service will be held Wednesday, November 22nd at 7:15 p.m. Christmas services will be held on Christmas Eve, December 24th at 8:30 a.m., 5:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
Board of Stewardship and Social Ministry: Deb Kingland reported in Don Aamodt's absence. They will be sending out the Statements of Giving and a Stewardship letter November 1. Time and Talent Sheets can still be turned in to the office if you haven't done so yet.
Board of Education: Bob Peterson reported that the Sunday School Christmas program will be held December 17th at 2:00 p.m. The Board of Education will be serving a soup luncheon from 11:30 until 1:00 on Sunday, November 5th to raise money for Bible camp.
Board of Youth: Wanda Playter reported on High School activities. There was a hayride last month at Rognes'. They are planning movie night after the football game on Friday, October 13th. Wanda also reported that the Pizza-Lunch-Tuesdays for high school students with Katie, is going better than expected, with around 20 or more students participating. For Middle School, there are 8 students going to UNI to a lock-in. Also, Friday Night Alive has started. There is going to be a welcome for Katie Zenk at coffee hour on October 29th. Wanda also said the youth are looking into buying a popcorn machine.
Board of Life and Growth: Jennifer McGrady reported the Installation Meal for Pastor Weeg went very well. There will be letters going out for new members soon and an Adult Inquiry Class will be offered beginning October 31 from 7-8:15 and will run for 6 weeks. Jennifer reported that the nursery will not be staffed anymore, but will still be open for use. Also, the Priscilla Circle is sponsoring "Operation Christmas Child" the shoebox ministry for Samaritan's Purse this year again and Jennifer will be giving a presentation at all three services to promote involvement of our congregation.
Board of Property and Management: Jerry Hoffman reported the boiler repair is 85% complete and they are hoping to be done this Friday. The internet service in the church needs to be updated and WCTA will be working on this. Saturday, November 4th is the scheduled cleaning day at the church from 8-11 a.m. hopefully everyone will turn out for that.
Call Committee Report/Staff Management Report: David Kingland reported that the Call Committee and Council met with Darrel Gerrietts, the Bishop's Representative, working on putting together their thoughts on overall staffing. They are still in the early stages at this point and will now be meeting weekly.
Pastor's Report: Deb Kingland reported that Pastor Norris continues to do visitations at the Care Center, Mills Harbour and with shut-ins. Deb encouraged anyone who might know of someone who would like a visit to call the office so they can be added to the shut-in list and receive a visit from Pastor Norris. Deb also reported that she has been hearing very positive feedback from the hospital visits Pastor Weeg has been doing and wanted Pastor Weeg to know how much he is appreciated.
Motion was made by Scott Helgeson and seconded by Bob Peterson to accept these reports. All approved.

OLD BUSINESS: None.

NEW BUSINESS:
Deb Kingland reported that the freshman class will be confirmed on Sunday, May 6th 2007, as originally planned. Deb then reported that there will be future discussion with the pastors, parents and students on when Confirmation will be held for the 8th grade class.

Transfers away: Robert Bjorklund

Motion to adjourn was made by Jennifer McGrady and seconded by Jerry Hoffman. All approved.

Next meeting will be Wednesday, November 8th at 8:00 p.m.
