SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL
The Salem Church Council met on October 14, 2004 in the fellowship hall.
Those present were: Pastor Dykstra, Scott Helgeson, Dianne Gardner, Linda Rasmusson, Wayne Nyguard, Amy Olson, Jerry Hoffman, Keith Helland, Bob Peterson and Kathy Gilbertson. Absent: Pastor Mackey, Doug Bruhns. Late: Deb Kingland.
Council member Keith Helland shared his faith journey with the council. Pastor Dykstra led us in prayer.
Each council member individually read the Secretary's Report. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Jerry Hoffman and seconded by Wayne Nyguard.
The Financial Report was given by Dianne Gardner. The amount of $ 47,010.79 was deposited in September. Financial statements will be sent out within the next month.
No Treasurer's Report was given. As of September 30, 2004 we have a balance of $16,096.83. This is offset by $28,000 in bank loans, plus a loan from the cemetery board. A motion was made by Bob Peterson and seconded by Keith Helland to accept these reports.
Board Reports:
Board of Worship and Music: Keith Helland reported the Waldorf Women's Choir "Sangkor" will be performing on November 21 at the 8:30 service. Salem member Karla Overland is a member of the choir. The board decided due to Christmas being on a Saturday, there will be no Saturday, 5:30 service. On February 24 the Waldorf Choir will be giving a concert at Salem and Robert Robinson will be performing on March 20. Adjustments on salaries for Kathi and Bill were made due to change in schedules.
Board of Stewardship and Social Ministry: Wayne Nyguard reported the Rentners will not be returning to Guatemala and it was recommended to apply the support money to a mission project in Guatemala. A motion was made by Wayne Nyguard and seconded by Amy Olson to accept the recommendation. A report was given on as to where the synod money is spent. A letter will be sent out November 1 for the fall campaign and Stewardship weekend is scheduled for November 20-21. On Sunday, October 24 at the adult forum there will be a question and answer time on the up coming budget. The board also approved the Operation Shoe box project for this year.
Board of Education: Bob Peterson reported the new kid envelopes have arrived and will be handed out. The Christmas program is being worked on.
Board of Youth: Amy Olson reported the fall kickoff was great and well attended. The youth mission trip for July 2005 will be in Kentucky. A meal in November is being planned as a fund raiser for the trip. The goal of the board is to have unity in the parish among the youth. Deb is having Bible study at noon for the high school kids during their lunch.
Board of Life and Growth: Linda Rasmusson reported Sunday, October 17 is the new members Sunday and they are introduced at adult forum. The hanging of the greens is scheduled for Saturday, November 27 and volunteers are needed. The "memory angel" service has been changed to after the 8:30 service on Sunday. The board has a sign up sheet for tickets to the "Splendors of Christmas" at North Heights for December 4 at 3:00. A schedule is being worked on for greeters at the doors.
Board of Property and Management: Jerry Hoffman reported the board is working on cleaning up the church yard. The stained glass windows are in need of repair. That will be a project for the future. The lounge is being redecorated with donations made in memory of Palmer and Grace Heltne.
One In Christ Parish Council: Scott Helgeson reported and reviewed with the board the preliminary budget for the parish. There was a lengthy discussion on the financial situation of Salem.
Motion was made by Dianne Gardner seconded by Linda Rasmusson to accept these reports.
Old Business: There are 39 participants signed up for the Guatemala trip in January.
New Business: The board decided to reschedule the next council meeting scheduled on November 11 to November 18 due to observing Veterans Day. A motion was made by Linda Rasmusson and seconded by Amy Olson to accept Jeanne Kuentzel as a new member of Salem.
The next meeting will be held Thursday, November 18, 2004. A motion to adjourn was made by Dianne Gardner and seconded by Scott Helgeson.
