SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL
The Salem Church Council met May 12, 2005 in the Lounge.
Those present were: Pastor Mackey, Deb Bachman, Deb Kingland, Doug Bruhns, Dianne Gardner, Linda Rasmusson, Don Aamodt, Keith Helland, Jerry Hoffman, Bob Peterson and Kathy Gilbertson. Absent: Pastor Dykstra, Scott Helgeson, Amy Olson.
Pastor Mackey led us in devotions and prayer.
Each council member individually read the Secretary's Report. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Keith Helland and seconded by Bob Peterson.
Deb Kingland read a thank you from the executive director of Safe Passage for the $300 donation they received.
The Treasurer's Report was given by Doug Bruhns. As of April 30, 2005 we have a balance of $ 0.00. It was noted that the funds coming in basically meet our payroll only. We have a bank loan of $53,000 and we have borrowed from our savings account to pay our bills.
The Financial Report was given by Dianne Gardner. The amount of $ 37,421.64 was deposited in April. Dianne noted we have had a few slow weeks of offering this past month.
A motion was made by Jerry Hoffman seconded by Linda Rasmusson to accept these reports.
Board Reports:
Board of Worship and Music: Keith Helland reported June 10-12 is Synod Assembly weekend. The board has asked Gladys Biehl to preach the sermon and they are looking for lay people to help with the liturgy. The outdoor service will start on May 29. Nate Sletten has offered to help with the music at that service. The board is planning an outdoor service that Nate and the Moonlighters will sing at. Watch the bulletin for more details.
Board of Stewardship and Social Ministry: Don Aamodt reported Dave Kingland will be the representative from their board to be one the finance committee. No other business was discussed at this time.
Board of Education: Bob Peterson reported the spaghetti fund raiser was a success. Bob read a thank you from Deb and Nick Barrett for the donation that was given to the family. The representative for the finance committee will be Medara Winter.
Board of Youth: Deb Bachman reported the board is planning an outreach event with "Perry and the Poor Boys" being a part of our worship service during July Jubilee weekend. The cost is $1500.00. The board of youth and education has each donated $500 to help with the cost. A motion was made by Dianne Gardner and seconded by Bob Peterson to donate $500 from our outreach fund to help cover the cost. The board is seeking donations for the tool boxes that are in the Narthex for their mission project.
Board of Life and Growth: Linda Rasmusson reported Jen McGrady is the representative for the finance committee. The board is seeking help with new ideas for the worship bags for the children. The board is planning activities for the campout June 24-25 including a night service during that weekend.
Board of Property and Management: Jerry Hoffman reported the WELCA is planning a fund raiser with matching funds to help with the stained glass windows. The board will be reviewing the fee policy on weddings, church rental etc. A motion was made by Keith Helland and seconded by Doug Bruhns to repair the stained glass windows as needed with the memorial money given.
One In Christ Parish Council: Deb Kingland reported each church in the parish will be discussing with their congregation the concerns some of the churches are facing. It was noted that Pastor Hagen has accepted his call and May 29 will be his last Sunday. There was discussion on how to handle the loss of a pastor to our parish concerning their addition duties.
Motion was made by Doug Bruhns and seconded by Jerry Hoffman to accept these reports.
Old Business: On June 10-12 the Pastors and Deb will be attending the Synod Assembly at Luther College. Please contact the pastors if you are interested in attending the assembly as our voting delegate. A motion was made by Doug Bruhns and seconded by Dianne Gardner to accept the new membership proposal that was brought to the council by the Board of Life and Growth.
New Business: A motion was made by Doug Bruhns and seconded by Keith Helland to accept Evans Olmstead and Rosa Andino as new members of Salem. Transfers: Brady Johnson.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2005. A motion to adjourn was made by Dianne Gardner and seconded by Jerry Hoffman.
We closed with silent prayer for our prayer partners and the Lord's Prayer.
