Each council member individually read the Secretary's Report.
Board Reports:
Board of Education: Kathy Ainley reported May 11 is the last day of Sunday School for this season. Plans for next years curriculum is being laid out and will be completed soon.
Board of Life and Growth: Pastor Mackey reported they are planning another potluck outside with a band, the date will be announced at a later date. They will be encouraging people to invite guests and the rest of the parish will be invited. The farmers market will be set up in the narthex again this year, with the money going to the One Crop For Christ.
Board of Stewardship and Social Ministry: Wayne Nyguard reported that the time and talent surveys will be sent out in the June informant and will be collected at the June 8th service. The fall campaign Stewardship Sunday will be November 23.
Board of Worship and Music: Keith Helland reported their board reviewed the services. In August they will be going over the distribution of communion with the council members.
Board of Youth: Rhonda Charlton reported the Easter breakfast was a success. Sunday, May 18 we will be honoring the graduates at the services, and at the adult forum. The youth are still working on fund raisers for their Sacramento trip this summer.
Board of Property and Management: Bruce Adams reported we have a few leaks by the chapel area, and will be repaired. The sidewalk project was awarded to F & M Construction for a total of $20,730. The board is waiting for bids on the kitchen project. The stained glass windows are in need of repair, and the board will be seeking bids on that project. We have several large projects coming up and there was some discussion on having a fund raiser for them. We also discussed having a fund raiser at the same time to simultaneously donate money to a mission fund, such as a new church starting up, or a housing or hunger fund.
Treasurer's Report was given by Doug Bruhns. As of April 30, 2003 we have a balance of $13,105.86.
The Financial Secretary's Report was given by Dianne Gardner. The amount of $34,076.34 was deposited for the month of April.
One In Christ Parish Council: Scott Helgeson reported that the council is advertising for a youth director. The board had some discussion about the youth and that each church needs to think of all the youth in and out of the parish not just the youth in your own church.
Motion was made by Bruce Adams, seconded by Wayne Nyguard to accept these reports.
Old Business: After discussion on the Thrivent matching funds, Pastor Dykstra is going to visit with the board on their policy and help answer some of our questions. The Synod Assembly is June 13-15 at Wartburg College. If interested in attending, contact one of the pastors. The executive board will be getting together June 10th and update the membership list.
New Business: The board will be hosting a meal for the Celebration Iowa Singers and Jazz Band on Saturday evening of July Jubilee weekend. For the summer months of June, July and August the council will be meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. A motion was made by Bruce Adams, seconded by Kathy Ainley to accept Mike Aschenbrenner and Kelly Holtan as new members of Salem. A transfer was requested by Dennis Colby to First Lutheran in Cresco, Iowa.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, 2003. A motion to adjourn was made by Dianne Gardner, seconded by Mark Alphs.
We closed with the Lord's Prayer.
