The Salem Church Council met March 10, 2005 in the fellowship hall.
Those present were: Pastor Mackey, Deb Bachman, Scott Helgeson, Deb Kingland, Doug Bruhns, Dianne Gardner, Linda Rasmusson, Don Aamodt, Keith Helland, Jerry Hoffman, Bob Peterson and Kathy Gilbertson. Absent: Pastor Dykstra.
Pastor Mackey led us in devotions and prayer.
Each council member individually read the Secretary's Report. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Keith Helland and seconded by Linda Rasmusson.
The Financial Report was given by Dianne Gardner. The amount of $21,887.37 was deposited in February.
The Treasurer's Report was given by Doug Bruhns. As of February 28, 2005 we have a balance of $ 470.11. A motion was made by Bob Peterson seconded by Deb Kingland to accept these reports.
Board Reports:
Board of Worship and Music: Keith Helland reported tickets are available for the Robert Robinson concert on March 20. The board is looking into purchasing a new power point program to be used during the services. Keith mentioned the board is checking into casters for the grand piano as it is hard on the piano when moving it around. Deb Kingland shared with the board she is organizing a youth choir (2nd-5th) with the help of high school girls.
Board of Stewardship and Social Ministry: Don Aamodt reported on March 13, Diane Schwartz will be speaking to the congregation on seeking donations for the Riverside Building fund. Pastor Nancy Larson spoke to the board on stewardship programs available to us.
Board of Education: Bob Peterson reported the spaghetti dinner is scheduled for April 3. There is money available for anyone interesting in attending Bible Camp.
Board of Youth: Amy Olson reported the board is organizing the breakfast served at 7:15 Easter Sunday. The youth will be participating in the second famine scheduled for March 19-20 at Winnebago Church. The money raised will be sent to Safe Passage.
Board of Life and Growth: Linda Rasmusson reported the board will be sponsoring a potluck meal during the July Jubilee weekend. The new member class is March 29 at 7:00. The worship bags for the children have been updated and thank you to Jen McGrady for making the additional bags. A parish wide camp out is scheduled for June 24-26 at Clear Lake. There was discussion concerning prospective new members taking classes before joining Salem. The board was advised to read "The Purpose Driven Church."
Board of Property and Management: Jerry Hoffman reported the stained glass project will be starting soon. The board will be scheduling tuck pointing and exterior painting to be completed this summer on the building. The board has rehired Scott Hanson for the mowing at the cemetery.
One In Christ Parish Council: Deb Kingland reported on the sharing arrangement change with Leland. A motion was made by Dianne Gardner and seconded by Don Aamodt to accept the updated version of the sharing arrangement made for One in Christ Lutheran Parish.
Motion was made by Bob Peterson seconded by Deb Kingland to accept these reports.
Old Business: none
New Business: All members are encouraged to give prayer, thought, and feedback to the parish wide evaluation process in the next few months. It was discussed with the board on having a contemporary Christian band in town the Sunday of July Jubilee. This would be a great outreach project for Salem. Deb will seek more information on the availability of the band. A motion was made by Doug Bruhns and seconded by Jerry Hoffman to accept Keith Johnson Sr., Allison Flugum and her son Slade Sifuentes, as new members of Salem.
The next meeting will be held Thursday, April 14, 2005. A motion to adjourn was made by Dianne Gardner and seconded by Jerry Hoffman.
