SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL

The Salem Church Council met on March 11, 2004 in the Lounge.

Those present were: Pastor Dykstra, Pastor Mackey, Scott Helgeson, Deb Kingland, Doug Bruhns, Dianne Gardner, Linda Rasmusson, Keith Helland, Amy Olson, Jerry Hoffman and Kathy Gilbertson. Absent: Wayne Nyguard and Bob Peterson.

Pastor Dykstra led us in devotion and prayer.

Each council member individually read the Secretary's Report. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Keith Helland and seconded by Jerry Hoffman.

The Financial Secretary's Report was given by Dianne Gardner. The amount of $77,779.78 was deposited in February.

The Treasurer's Report was given by Doug Bruhns. As of February 29, 2004 we have a balance of $24,240.46. A motion was made by Linda Rasmusson and seconded by Amy Olson to accept these reports.

Board Reports:
Board of Worship and Music:
Keith Helland instructed the new board and council members on serving communion. Tickets are on sale for the Robert Robinson concert which will be held on March 28 at 4:00 at Salem. The proceeds will be used to purchase a keyboard, laptop and DVD. Communion for the Lenten season has been changed and will be on Maundy Thursday and Easter morning. The board is looking for assistance in the music department with the organ and piano playing.

Board of Stewardship and Social Ministry: No report.

Board of Education: No report. It was noted that the Sunday School was starting a new rotation. The last day of Sunday School will be May 9.

Board of Youth: Amy Olson reported the ski trip went well. They had 60 participants. The parish service meal and auction raised approximately $2000 for this summer's mission service trips. The board is planning the Easter breakfast and the 29 hours and 59 minute famine.

Board of Life and Growth: Linda Rasmusson reported the board is working on updating the brochure that will be sent out to visitors. The board discussed having greeters at all the doors on Sunday mornings to welcome people into the church. The board is organizing a new member coffee and it was noted to watch the bulletin for details.

Board of Property and Management: Jerry Hoffman reported the kitchen remodeling is on schedule and will be completed in the next week. They are in need of volunteers to help with clean up on Saturday, March 13. Robert Filbrandt will be in charge of the parsonage and taking care of the minor repairs needed. The board will be seeking bids for the work on the stained glass windows. The nursery is in need of a good cleanup and Sue Smith will be organizing it.

One In Christ Parish Council: Scott Helgeson reported July 18 is the closing date for North Prairie. The board proposed an amendment to the parish sharing agreement as item XI which refers to Congregational Councils from the Parish Council. This amendment has guidelines for a new church joining the One In Christ Parish. A motion was made by Keith Helland and seconded by Dianne Gardner to approve the proposed amendment.
Motion was made by Doug Bruhns, seconded by Linda Rasmusson to accept these reports.

Old Business: none

New Business: The Synod Assembly is scheduled for June 11-13 at Wartburg College. We will select delegates at the next meeting. The pastors requested a prayer partner to pray with the preaching pastor before they begin the service. There will be a dedication for the kitchen when it is completed.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 15, 2004. Note the change due to Maundy Thursday. A motion to adjourn was made by Dianne Gardner, seconded by Linda Rasmussen.
