SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL

The Salem Church Council met on January 9, 2003 in the Lounge.

Those present were: Pastor Dykstra, Pastor Mackey, Jody Skogen, Mark Alphs, Doug Bruhns, Dianne Gardner, Bruce Adams, Kathy Ainley, Scott Helgeson, Wayne Nyguard, Rhonda Charlton, Keith Helland and Kathy Gilbertson. Absent: Margaret Okland

Pastor Mackey led us in a new format for the meeting with scripture and prayer.

Each council member individually read the Secretary's report.
Doug Bruhns gave the Treasure's report. As of 12/31/02 we have a balance of $2,312.98 in the checking account.
The organ loan at the bank has been paid in full.
Dianne Gardner gave the Financial Secretary's report. We deposited $46,773.78 for the month of December.
Motion made by Kathy Ainley and seconded by Keith Helland to accept these reports.


Board Reports
Board of Education
- Kathy Ainley reported that the children's Christmas program was great! Starting March 12 the board will be having soup suppers during Lent to raise money for Bible camp and day camp for those who attend. They will be checking with Thrivent for matching funds.

Board of Life and Growth - Pastor Mackey reported they will be putting welcome wagon packets together with the help of LMCDC. There will be a family movie night on February 9th at 6:00. Movie will be announced at a later date. A Lent calendar to raise money for LMAMA will be made and handed out to those interested in participating. A worship bag for kids will be put together for them to use during worship time.

Board of Stewardship - Wayne Nyguard reported on the results of the stewardship drive. There is a 25% increase in pledges from last year.

Board of Property and Management - Bruce Adams reported a decrease in the gas bill on the even payment plan. Bruce and Kathi Dykstra will report on the kitchen plans at the adult forum. The lights in the church will be cleaned and bulbs changed and the dimmers are still on back order. They will be requesting bids on the sidewalk project that is coming up in June.

Board of Worship and Music - Keith Helland reported tickets will go on sale on Jan. 18/19 for Robert Robinson concert. The concert will be March 2, 2003. To fulfill the needs of our church with Jody leaving, the board proposed to have Bill Georgia takes over JC4U, and Kathi Dykstra will continue with the Saturday evening service and the traditional service. Their salaries will be $4,000. Motion made by Keith Helland and seconded by Kathy Ainley to go with the board's recommendation.

Board of Youth - Jody Skogen spoke on how well the Mentor program is going. Testimonies were shared by mentors and a student. Rhonda Charlton reported the board recommended Amy Olson to be the new youth board member taking the position of Bill Tweeten. Motion made by Rhonda Charlton and seconded by Bruce Adams to accept this recommendation. The board will be getting together and finding replacements for the groups Jody has been involved in.

Motion to accept these reports was made by Bruce Adams and seconded by Doug Bruhns.

Old Business - None

New Business - LuAnn Scholbrock president of the Son Shine Preschool presented her annual report. They have had successful fund raisers and are pleased with the enrollment. They thanked Salem for the use of the classrooms and their financial support.
Doug Bruhns presented the proposed budget for 2003. The budget has an increase of 4 1/2%. Motion made by Bruce Adams, seconded by Scott Helgeson to accept the proposed budget.
The annual meeting will be January 23, 2003 at 7:00 in the fellowship hall. The board will supply lunch.
Motion made by Scott Helgeson, seconded by Keith Helland to accept Darin Ruud as a new member of Salem.
Mark Alphs will be representing Salem at the LMCDC annual meeting on January 18, 2003.
Pastor Mackey will be attending the Lake Conference Spring Assembly February 9 from 3-5 at Galilean Lutheran Church. Anyone interested in attending contact Pastor Mackey.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2003. A motion to adjourn was made by Dianne Gardner, seconded by Kathy Ainley.
