SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL

The Salem Church Council met on February 12, 2004 in the Lounge.

Those present were: Pastor Dykstra, Pastor Mackey, Scott Helgeson, Dianne Gardner, Linda Rasmussen, Wayne Nyguard, Amy Olson, Bob Peterson, Jerry Hoffman and Kathy Gilbertson. Absent: Keith Helland, Doug Bruhns and Deb Kingland.

Pastor Dykstra led us in devotion and prayer.

President Scott Helgeson welcomed the new council members and instructed them on our procedure at the meeting.

Each council member individually read the Secretary's Report. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Wayne Nyguard and seconded by Bob Peterson.

The Financial Secretary's Report was given by Dianne Gardner. The amount of $34,178.55 was deposited in January.

In the absence of Doug Bruhns no report was given. As of January 31, 2004 we have a balance of ($2,917.29) A motion was made by Jerry Hoffman and seconded by Amy Olson to accept these reports.

Board Reports:
Board of Worship and Music:
Pastor Mackey reported the Robert Robinson concert will be March 28th at 4:00 at Salem. Tickets will go on sale Sunday, February 15. March 7 will be the Parish Wide Service held in the school. Next month council will meet at 7:45 for instructions on communion for the new board members.

Board of Stewardship and Social Ministry: Wayne Nyguard reported a representative from Riverside Bible camp will be at Salem on April 18 asking for donations for a new dining hall. They will be speaking during the services and at adult forum. A motion was made by Dianne Gardner and seconded by Linda Rasmussen to sponsor Ron and Vonnie Rentner from Guatemala as our new missionaries due to Carrie Grev retiring.

Board of Education: Bob Peterson reported they are having a spaghetti dinner fund raiser on April 25th and the money will be used for Bible Camp scholarships. The Bible camp dates have been set for July 18-23 for Okoboji and Ingham and August 1-6 for day camps.

Board of Youth: Amy Olson reported 22 have signed up for the Utah and Louisiana trips. February 21 will be the youth ski trip to Welch Village. They are planning a 30 hour famine and the money raised will go to Safe Passage in Guatemala.

Board of Life and Growth: Linda Rasmussen reported the board is making Lenten calendars again this year and the money will go to World Hunger and the food bank. They are planning a bus trip to the Passion play at Arden Hills in April. Watch the bulletin for details and sign up sheets.

Board of Property and Management: Jerry Hoffman reported the kitchen project is on schedule and could possibly be completed by mid March. They will be seeking bids soon for the repairing of the stained glass windows. The board is planning on doing some landscaping and will be seeking volunteers.

One In Christ Parish Council: Scott Helgeson and Pastor Dykstra reported the directory photo books will be out in March. It was reported that North Prairie has voted to close their congregation. Doug Harmon will be replacing Gladys Biehl on the board and he will be serving with Scott Helgeson and Pat Young.

Motion was made by Wayne Nyguard, seconded by Linda Rasmussen to accept these reports.

Old Business: Pastor Dykstra reported on the Guatemala trip. They are preparing a power point and will be sharing their stories with us at a later date. In September there will be classes for the ALPHA program. Pastor Hagen is working with a task force and invites anyone interested to join them. This program is an Introduction to Christian Faith which is aimed for the unchurched. The task force would like to purchase 500 introductions to Christian faith booklets. A motion was made by Jerry Hoffman and seconded by Dianne Gardner to donate $250 from our local outreach evangelism fund.

New Business: The Conference Assembly is Tuesday, February 24 in Clear Lake. Any board member interested in going contact Pastor Dykstra or Pastor Mackey.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 11, 2004. A motion to adjourn was made by Dianne Gardner, seconded by Amy Olson.
