The Salem Church Council met on December 9, 2004 in the fellowship hall.
Those present were: Pastor Dykstra, Pastor Mackey, Deb Bachman, Scott Helgeson, Doug Bruhns, Deb Kingland, Dianne Gardner, Linda Rasmusson, Wayne Nyguard, Amy Olson, Keith Helland, and Kathy Gilbertson. Absent: Bob Peterson and Jerry Hoffman. Guests: Sue Smith, Ree Pederson and Kathy Borgmeyer.
Pastor Dykstra led us in devotions and prayer. Deb Kingland read the correspondence.
Each council member individually read the Secretary's Report. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Linda Rasmusson and seconded by Deb Kingland.
The Financial Report was given by Dianne Gardner. The amount of $45,467.86 was deposited in November. The 2005 envelopes are in the entry to be picked up. Dianne recommended ordering 50 less envelopes for 2006 year.
The Treasurer's Report was given by Doug Bruhns. As of November 30, 2004 we have a balance of $ 26,685.77. A motion was made by Wayne Nyguard and seconded by Amy Olson to accept these reports.
Board Reports:
Board of Worship and Music: Keith Helland reported the Christmas musical will be December 19 at both services. The candle light services on Christmas Eve are at 5:00 and 10:30. Pastor Mackey will have a 5:30 service in the chapel on December 25th. The parish wide service is scheduled for March 6, 2005 at the school.
Board of Stewardship and Social Ministry: Wayne Nyguard reported the board is discussing for the coming years a parish wide stewardship board.
Board of Education: Pastor Mackey reported the Sunday School Christmas program is December 19 at 2:00. There will be no Sunday School on December 26.
Board of Youth: Amy Olson reported on the success of movie night with 20 youth attending after the BB game. They are planning a broom ball game at Winter's rink, snow ball fight weather permitting, and in February, a Christian Rock concert. The youth will be baking and decorating cookies to be delivered to the shut-ins on Sunday, December 12.
Board of Life and Growth: Linda Rasmusson reported the board is planning to show the movie "Noah" on January 23 at 3:00 and around Easter showing "The Passion".
Board of Property and Management: Sue Smith reported the board is researching the stained glass window project. The repairing of the walls in the sanctuary with plaster and painting not being completed is due to the full schedule of the contractor. The lounge is near completion and Sue explained the pictures donated by herself in memory of her family.
One In Christ Parish Council: Scott Helgeson reported the proposed budget was passed by all the churches in the parish.
Motion was made by Dianne Gardner seconded by Linda Rasmusson to accept these reports.
Old Business: The nominating committee is filling vacancies on boards for the vote at the annual meeting. Wayne Nyguard and Dianne Gardner reported there were 282 pledges in the amount of $268.969.00 sent in for 2005. This amount is up approximately $28,000.00 from last year. There are 700 giving units at Salem.
New Business: Kathy Borgmeyer and Ree Pederson presented the annual report to the council from the SON Shine Preschool Board. The council thanked the Preschool board for the great job they are doing with the children. Doug Bruhns presented the preliminary numbers for the 2005 Salem budget. After discussion and changes a motion was made by Wayne Nyguard and seconded by Dianne Gardner to accept the proposed budget. A motion was made by Doug Bruhns and seconded by Keith Helland to approve the annual meeting date and agenda (January 27, 2005 at 7:00). A motion was made by Amy Olson and seconded by Deb Kingland to accept Tilford Christenson (associate) and Betty Thompson as new members of Salem.
The next meeting will be held Thursday, January 13, 2005. A motion to adjourn was made by Dianne Gardner and seconded by Doug Bruhns.
We closed with singing carols around the Christmas tree and the Lord's Prayer.
