SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL - SPECIAL MEETING
President Deb Kingland called a Special Salem Council meeting on April 25, 2006 at 7:00 PM in the lounge. Those present were: Deb Kingland, Tami Alphs, Jennifer McGrady, Bob Peterson, Don Aamodt, Wanda Playter, Scott Helgeson, Gaye Sletten, LuAnn Rognes and Pastor Mackey. Pastor Mackey opened with prayer.
Pastor Mackey presented Council members copies of his Letter of Resignation. He had accepted a new call to Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Dallas, North Carolina. His last Sunday preaching will be May 28th, 2005. He will then be taking his two weeks of vacation to move to North Carolina. With his vacation, Salem would continue paying his salary and providing benefits through June 12th, 2006.
There was discussion on how Salem would cover Pastoral duties prior to the hiring of an Interim or Senior Pastor. Pastor Mackey pointed out he would provide the Council a list of supply pastors.
Pastor Mackey informed the Council that there were some weddings scheduled through the summer that would need to be covered. He had contacted Pastor Bill Peters and Pastor Randy Baldwin who both expressed they would be willing to help out if needed. A motion was made to contact either Pastor Peters or Pastor Baldwin to cover the wedding ceremonies. Motion made by Bob Peterson and seconded by Wanda Playter. All approved.
There was some discussion on the need for a Pastor to oversee the Communion Services. The Saturday night service currently has communion two Sundays a month. The Council agreed that during this time the Saturday night service would have Communion just one Sunday a month.
There were other areas identified requiring attention including: Funerals, Baptisms, Confirmation, Sunday School Superintendent, WOW Director, Vacation Bible School and the safe opening. The Council will discuss these areas at the next meeting.
A motion was made to accept the resignation of Pastor Kevin Mackey. The motion was made by Wanda Playter and seconded by Scott Helgeson. All Approved.
A Farewell Reception for the Mackey's will be planned for Thursday, May 25th from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We will open this to the public.
